Tricks & Tips
Extracting
- Buy a stainless steel hive tool and keep it in the honey house. Useful for uncapping as well as for removing frames from supers.
- To reduce moisture content in honey, stack supers ‘staggered’ and then use a low powered fan heater (up to 2 kilowatts) at a distance of about 5’ to circulate warm air through them. Do not have the heater too close or you will melt combs. An oscillating fan heater is best.
- Frames are much easier to remove from supers stacked ‘staggered’.
- Make 'super movers' from scrap timber and large castors.
